T-Chow is a popular Chinatown restaurant that specializes in TeoChew cuisine right here in Adelaide. Located on what could easily be called the mainstreet of Chinatown, T-Chow is airy and spacious. This place was picked by my dear friend who had been craving Peking Duck for a while. What started off during the planning phase (you guys don’t know my friend, food is serious business and booking a table is almost always done a month ahead!) as a birthday dinner kind of ended up being a family dinner with our spouses joining as well.

We were a party of 7 and us ladies started off with an impromptu tour of Chinatown with loads of shopping at BreadTop. After a round of bubble tea and some office gossip, we arrived at T-Chow at around 6.00 pm for a 6.30 start. The staff were very welcoming and did not really mind us showing up early which was quite nice.

Coming to the food at T-Chow, the menu is extensive, you can actually get lost in all those pages! However, their speciality is Peking Duck and that’s what we were here for. So we ended up ordering Peking Duck, Crispy Chicken, Spicy Chilli Prawns, Braised Beef Hot Pot, T-Chow Special Fried Rice and Chilli Beef. That does sound like quite a lot, but it was just about enough between all of us. And we cleaned up pretty good too, the food was that amazing! It did get noisy halfway through with the nearby tables getting crowded, but none of us really cared as we were a bit loud ourselves. Who knows, our neighbours might have felt we were being loud as well!

The food was beautifully presented, fresh and packed with flavour. I was trying Peking Duck for the first time and I was bowled over by the flavour. Coming from Kerala, the only duck dish I am familiar with is a duck curry made during Easter. And Freddy not being a big fan of the same, we have never really ordered duck while dining out. Needless to say, we were quite looking forward to trying this dish! The duck is served sliced up along with thin pancakes and a variety of condiments. The crispy skin is the real highlight with the fat rendered out used to prepare either fried rice or noodle as per your choice. How you traditionally try this dish would be by placing some meat along with the condiments of your choice on a pancake and make a roll. But hey, you can try the duck as it is and its just as divine.

Service at T-Chow was prompt and courteous. The dishes were all reasonably priced as well. The Chinese tea served along with the food was quite refreshing and for a tea lover like me, truly the “icing on the cake”. Overall, if you are looking to try some authentic Chinese dishes in Adelaide, do head over here! As my friend summed up the experience, T-Chow was all about “fantastic food, awesome price and excellent company”. As for me, the company I am in matters as much as the food and this dinner was one of the best in recent times!
