We have been planning on trying Samrat Indian Cuisine for a long while now. And every single time something or the other will come up over the weekend and our plans to dine out just flies out the window! We finally decided enough is enough couple of weeks back and had dinner here on a Friday night.
Located in Magill, Samrat Indian cuisine is a tiny restaurant. And when I say tiny.I mean it, quite literally. There would have been half a dozen tables altogether, and that is after counting the alfresco dining option as well! The place is so unassuming and small that you start to doubt your choice of restaurant while going through the menu. And yet, the moment the food is served, all your worries vanish into thin air. The food here is that good!
Being our first time, we ordered naans, both plain and buttered along with butter chicken and chicken tikka masala. For us, the quality of any Indian restaurant can be measured by this selection. And they passed, with flying colours. The butter chicken and the chicken tikka masala were beautifully flavoured and balanced. The butter chicken in fact made us pine for all those Sunday afternoons spent at Moti Mahal back in Chennai. And the naans were equally good as well.
Coming to the service, the lady who served us was chirpy, nice and courteous. Overall, Samrat Indian cuisine may be a tiny restaurant in terms of seating facilities, but the place more than makes up for this debacle with the quality of food they serve. We loved the food so much that we ordered a bunch of chicken biryani for a house party we had last night. And the biryani was spot on as well. Kudos to the chef and waitstaff!
